Your money mindset is everything when it comes to financial wellness and freedom. It’s easy to live in the mental space of scarcity. Sometimes we are shaped by past events, sometimes we struggle to land on our feet, and sometimes, we simply don’t know how to cultivate abundance. This is space is a dark and scary one but just by talking about money, we can find better ways to invite it into our lives. A simple shift of the way that you talk about money could be the answer being debt-free, living the life you’ve always wanted, and that sweet feeling of freedom.
The idea of scarcity means never having enough. For example, telling yourself “There isn’t enough money to earn 6-figures in the company” is the idea of scarcity in the corporate world. This mentality comes from a gap in the mind where the idea of limitless wants exists yet there is a limited amount of resources to fulfill these wants. Resources generally cost something; time, energy, money, etc. When something has a cost, there’s usually a limited supply available to receive these items. On a technical term, everything is scarce. But that doesn’t prevent you from living. No one thinks, “there aren’t an infinite amount of hours today so I just won’t enjoy the hours that I have available.” Okay, maybe some people do think that way but when discussing the general population, the idea of scarcity doesn’t prevent functionality…until it revolves around the topics of money.
Many people can pinpoint exactly where their scarcity mindset originates from. For me, it’s from my childhood. My mom worked harder than anyone I knew to make ends meet. She worked multiple jobs to put food on the table and saved a little extra over the summer so she could buy us new school clothes. She consistently taught me the importance of saving money. Sometimes a little too much and I felt guilty of even thinking about spending money. My mom is the definition of a true hustler. Even so, it wasn’t until recent years where I saw her thrive financially. There was a constant fear of there never being enough to enjoy life. These moments are engraved in me and I have to make a conscious effort to realize that there’s so much abundance in the world and I have the chance to invite that in.
There are two parts to attracting money. The first is the idea of abundance. This is believing that there will always be enough for everyone willing to work for it. The second is manifestation. This means that you’re willing to think about, work, and shift to invite that abundance into your life. Having a mindset of scarcity and that there isn’t enough to go around isn’t going to help you manifest abundance. This idea is holding you back. The universe picks up on that and naturally, you won’t work as hard. Think as if there was nothing stopping you. No barriers in your way and an unlimited amount of money were available to you but all you had to do was work towards your goals. What would you be willing to do? Probably a lot more than if you thought none of it mattered. This is money mindset. It matters because there will always be enough to go around. If you believe there isn’t enough then you aren’t willing to do what it takes to reach higher numbers and greater abundance.
Money is all about mindset. The more you think about it positively, the more it will come to you. Manifestation and inviting abundance into your life sounds like a bunch of hippie-dippie B.S. but it works. It’s a real thing. Attracting abundance isn’t just going to come by saying you want more money. Manifest financial freedom by shifting your mindset with the strategies below.
Think about your childhood, your past spending habits, the people you have been surrounded by, etc. Try to pinpoint any behaviors that have altered the way you see money (for me, it’s the way my mom talked about money as shared above). Use these behaviors to shape how you see money. I have always known that when I have children, I don’t want them to worry about being able to join a school club or ask me to buy them something for a project. I shape my money mindset by being the opposite of the behaviors I saw as a child.
Your mind is an incredible thing. Use it to your advantage. This is so simple. Literally just visualize what you want your life to look like. Think about what kind of home you live in, the decor, the car you drive, the people that surround you, all the things. You can even pick out images and create a vision board (or Pinterest board) of these items. Actively think and/or look at these visualizations and naturally, you will work harder to reach the resources needed to have this life. Think negative and negativity will come. Think positive and positivity will come. It’s your choice of how you see your future.
How do you talk about money? Saying “I can’t afford that” and “I don’t want to discuss how much money I make (or don’t make)” isn’t helping you. Your mind is designed to believe what you see, hear, and think. When you tell yourself that you can’t afford something, then you never truly will. Limiting beliefs are lies that we tell ourselves to limit our capacity to grow and be better. Change the way you talk about money as if what you want IS going to happen. Be specific, actively tell yourself what you can do, and change negative connotations into more positive ones. For example, instead of saying “I can’t afford to go to that nice restaurant for dinner” say “Thanks for the invite but I am actually trying to save up for something that’s really important so I’m going to skip out on this one”
When you aren’t specific, there won’t be much drive to get where you want to be. Your money won’t magically manifest for something from “I’m going to save money all year”. It’s crucial to be specific and clear in your money goals so there are purpose and clarity in it. Make goals like “I’m going to save $200 every month for 3 years so that I can work with a wellness coach.”
This is key! You become the average of the 5 people you spend the most time around. Surround yourself with people that are smart with their money, care about saving, and keep up with their budget. When you are around people that blow through their money, are financially stressed, and always say “I can’t afford to do that”, you will naturally become more like this too.
There needs to be direction to get somewhere. This goes the same with money. Being organized with your finances is one of the most basic ways to shift your money mindset and grow abundance naturally. When you are organized, it is easier to track financials, budget, and see what you can afford and where you should save. This will help give your finances directions, making it easier to accomplish goals.
